Saline Fiddlers Since 1994, the Saline Fiddlers have undeniably set the standard for extracurricular music programs in the United States. The group began with a simple idea: introduce an alternative style of music education to public school students. It has grown into a model of instruction and motivation that is being emulated across the nation. Yet more importantly, it is a brilliant example of what young adults can and will achieve if given a direction and the opportunity to explore, and pursue their own interests. The Fiddlers' tours have brought them from the east coast to the west coast, down south and up north too. Recent tours have included New York City, Boston, California, Nevada, Florida, southeastern states (where Bluegrass was born) and many other places where the Saline Fiddlers have positively changed people's lives. The summer of 2006 took them to Mississippi's Gulf coast, where they gave a series of hugely-appreciated benefit concerts for storm-weary residents and relief workers from all over the country. The Saline Fiddlers maintain a year round performance schedule, averaging 80 performances each year. |

Six Foot Poles The Six Foot Poles are a five-piece band that plays vintage classic rock and roll with a Motown twist. The musical knowledge and experience of the Poles spans five decades and has accumulated over 100 years of combined experience playing in various local bands. The Six Foot Poles have played together for over 15 years and includes three brothers, Dave, Mark and Mat Brzezinski (all over six feet tall), and their “brother from another mother,” Theo Smith, and the "five foot pole", Joelene Piatt Brzezinski. Mat handles the drum kit as Dave, Mark and Theo all trade off on guitar and bass duties. Theo can also add various keyboards to the mix whenever the song calls for it. All of the members of the band sing, the majority being the harmonies of Mark and Theo with Joelene as a featured vocalist. The Poles enthusiasm for classic and eclectic rock songs reflect their various influences, including the Beatles, the Stones, the Smithereens, Smokey Robinson, the Doors, Kinks, Moody Blues as well as obscure one-hit wonders from the 1960's and 1970's. When the band calls on Joelene, they expand their range to include Jefferson Airplane, Melissa Etheridge and beyond. |

Jesse Palter At 24 years old, through both training and pure instinct, Jesse has grown into one of the most accomplished and dynamic vocalists (and composers) in the jazz and overall music scenes. Her voice is a flexible, facile instrument wielded by an ambitious and visionary player; it can be sweet or salty, polished or raw, wide in range and broad in stylistic scope, channeling and combining influences such as Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter Sarah Vaughan, Patsy Cline, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and Carmen McRae. It's the voice of someone who has a voracious appetite for growth and is fearless in that pursuit -- the perfect equation for a promising future. "I've grown so much -- musically, harmonically, as a thinker in general," says Jesse, who took Outstanding Jazz Vocalist honors at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Detroit Music Awards. "Instead of just getting on the bandstand and playing tunes off-the-cuff, we have our own unique interpretations of standards and classic songs as well as my original compositions. Working with such accomplished musicians, we are constantly pushing each other to expand outside of the box. This has taken our group to the next level". |

Rattlebox Rattlebox is the ultimate expression of 60s music gone wild. Like a 326 hemi on rocket fuel, this band is fast out of the hole and screams down the highway of good times. Music played with reckless abandon by guys from the atomic era. They will stimulate your senses and take you to the heights of boogaloo. These individual musicians began playing music with various bands in the 60s at Detroit clubs such as The Hideout, Crowsnest, Grande Ballroom and Chatterbox. In 1997, cosmic forces brought together Rattlebox. Influenced by 50s rock, Motown, R&B, classic blues, and a passion for great music, Rattlebox generates an energy from the stage guaranteed to keep your house a rockin. |

Saline Big Band The Saline Big Band was formed in 1973 by a group of musicians that loved to play their music; primarily music from the swing era. Over the years the membership has changed although we still have a number of the founding fathers in our ranks. This seventeen piece big band has primarily served southeastern Michigan over the years but has had opportunities to extend their audience to include the people of Brecon Wales where the Saline Big Band helped kick off the first ever Brecon Jazz festival. During the day you will find our members masquerading as doctors, lawyers, professors, band directors, managers, engineers, and so on. But don't be fooled. These folks are hopeless musicians. |

Fiddlers Restrung A 17-piece string ensemble featured at over 80 performances annually, Fiddlers ReStrung proudly displays a diverse arrangement of styles. American Bluegrass, Celtic fiddle, popular folk, Appalachian Step-dancing, Progressive Acoustic, and more are all brought forward with a crisp, enterprising flair. They engage the audience with energy and witty charm, advocating a message of spontaneous enthusiasm born of a genuine live performance. ReStrung consists of students at Saline High School, all of whom share in producing a unique ensemble truly their own. Working alongside leadership, students craft their own arrangements and help make organizational decisions. This collaborative ownership grants ReStrung an authentic creative edge that is clearly visible from the striking energy they portray on stage. Students are chosen based not only on musical talent, but personal maturity as well. They balance a demanding performance schedule while maintaining high standards in other school activities, sports, and academics. Fiddlers ReStrung prides itself on being highly adaptable; no venue is too small, no stage too large. In addition to touring nationally each summer, they donate a third of their yearly schedule to community service events. They provide workshop opportunities for schools around the country as well as host an annual December concert in support of the USMC ‘s Toys for Tots program. |

AUGUST 13 |
Macpodz Ann Arbor's jazz rock outfit, The Macpodz, throw some of the coolest parties around. With a little bit of everything in its musical grab bag, The Macpodz easily please music lovers, from fans of far out jazz to those rootsy jam band-style grooves. The inventor and namesake of its own brand of funky dance music, coined 'disco-bebop,' The Macpodz pay homage to kinky musical concoctions like the groovy, unstructured big band instrumental works of the late, great Frank Zappa with psychadelic tinges of sunglasses-and-afro era Miles Davis. With two solid albums under its belt and a slew of foot-shuffling fans across the region, The Macpodz impress as only an open-minded band can, taking the core of genuine American music and tossing in tasteful touches of world music grooves and lots and lots of swinging horn licks that rouse and comfort all at once. |
